Hey ADC, that is too many egges for one basket. How about 50 coon @ $10/coon and 7% of that $35 or 10% with reserve $50 and you are going to be there anyway.

or $12.50 at a MO charge

Just found out that the Missouri Auction charges 25 cents per coon and Seller has the right to sell or not sell after the final bid is placed with no further costs to the seller.

Now that is a Trappers Auction!

So it would cost me $250 for the chance to sell my 1000 coons, and if I don't like the price I'm out the $250, plus gas, time and labor to get them to the auction. I couldn't afford to do that many times. I'd end up selling them no matter the price I bet many others would too. Same with the Iowa one. No sense in me spending the reserve money here either.... maybe I'll stick with just my country buyer. I never really had the funds to speculate on auctions anyway. [image]

Not really sure ADC on the price if no sale. Only was told it was .25 cents per coon to sell.

Those same 1000 coon will cost you $300 to put a $10.00 reserve on them at this sale. Then another $700 if they sell for that price so that is $1000.00 to sell 1000 coon. Now if you were only offered $9.00 average in the country you would break even. Of course the ITA would get that $1000, though.

I agree that 7% or 3% can add up to big numbers just to sell at an auction. One needs to get that much higher bid for ones fur at an auction to offset these fees plus time and expenses getting there and back.

Sorry everyone been busy last few days, but here is what I see you will have. A sale on Jan. 8th 2011, in Boone, Iowa. The way it looks to me is the seller will collect from the buyer and then pay their commission to the ITA. The commission will be 7%. The seller will be there with there fur and say sell or no sell at that time, no messing around know what you will take before you get to the aution stand. If you no sale something there will be a 3% charge just on the no sale of 3% for running it through the system. Everyone that is going to sell needs to remeber to bring thier check book or cash to pay their comssion. We will not require a depoist to get a seller number to start with, but if it becomes a problem with no shows that can be put in latter. At this time what is needed is people to show up the day of the sale and help. Any quetions just post them and I will try to answer.

My opinion, the ITA will benefit from the sale so no sense excluding anyone. I think all Iowa trappers should be members though.

:)

i think anybody and everybody should be able to bring fur. ITA will be getting some money out of this. ITA can use this a recuiting tool not as something to force people to join.

At $20 per year, all trappers should be ITA members!

I had someone say heck yeah members only, That is one of the benefits of being a member........I can kinda of see both sides of the coin....but kinda wanted to see what the consensus was before making my decision on what way to vote.

I only sell green coon and I'm guessing that even with the 7% commission, I'll do better than selling to my traveling buyer. Plus I know that 7% is going to a hell of a good place!!

Wouldnt the more we have selling attract more buyers, plus the ITA still gets the comission. Stiil havent decided if I will hold some hides for this sale. I usually sell my hides before Christmas.

How will non members find out about the auction you going to advertise it? I think it should be open to who ever wants to sell the more you have the better it will last for years to come. I don't think you should charge more for non members. You don't charge more for non members to get in the gates at the fall conventoins. Yes I 'm a member and feel every trapper should be but some will not join so get some money off of them this way.
